Allegretti:
Chef Alain Allegretti goes all out before the ball drops with an epic
seven-course ranging from panko-crusted oysters to winter vegetable
cassoulet with black truffles to veal tenderloin for $150 per person
(212-206-0555).
Aureole:
Charlie Palmer's New American right off Times Square is offering
two options on New Year's. From 5–6:30 PM the restaurant is serving a
$125-per-person, three-course tasting menu. Then from 8:30–10:30 PM,
for those who have $650 to shell out, diners can dig into an elaborate
five-course chef's tasting menu accompanied by wine pairings, a
champagne toast at midnight, a DJ and a dance floor (212-319-1660).
Back Forty:
This East Villager is throwing a party for the night. From 6–8 PM the
kitchen will be serving an à la carte menu including holiday specials
(oysters, porchetta, scallop ceviche). Then from 9 PM, the party starts
with a a raw seafood table, an entire standing rib roast slicing
station, passed hors d'oeuvres, a live DJ and more. The feast is $65
per person (plus $10 for walk-ins after 11 PM) and includes three drink
tickets (212-388-1990).
Cabrito: With seatings until 8:45 PM, this Village Mexican will offer a $25-per-person, three-course prix fixe that includes chips and guac, tacos, enchiladas and churros. The catch? You'll also need to buy a ticket for the open-bar party running from 10 PM–2 AM. For $60 per person, you can drink unlimited beer on tap, wine, sangria and margaritas, or for $80 per person, you can have access to all the booze the restaurant stocks (212-929-5050).
Crema:
Eat like Frida Kahlo at this Chelsea Mexican, which is offering a prix
fixe that includes dishes inspired by the artist's own recipes like ave rellena en huitlacoche (stuffed chicken breast, shrimp and spinach in a huitlacoche sauce), jabali en pipian nogada (wild boar with green pipian) and chiles en nogada
(filled chile poblano with pork-beef picadillo). The dinner, offered in
seatings at 7:30 and 10 PM, runs $100 per person (212-691-4477).
Esperanto:
For an affordable New Year's feast, look no further than this East
Village Nuevo Latino, which is offering a three-course holiday prix
fixe for $29 per person (212-505-6559).
Emporio:
In addition to a selection of oysters available à la carte, this NoLita
Italian is offering a four-course feast for the night that also
includes an amuse-bouche of warm chestnut and truffle soup shooters and
complimentary wood-fired pizzettes and focaccia ($85 per person;
212-966-1234).
Fishtail:
David Burke's UES fin house celebrates 2010 with a $65-per-person,
four-course tasting menu in addition to its à la carte menu. Want wine
with that? Additional paired wine flights are available for $40 and $90
(212-754-1300).
508: Before the ball drops and brings in your resolution, hunker down to a whole roast suckling pig at this SoHo spots four-course feast ($65 per person; 212-219-2444).
Industria Argentina: At this TriBeCan Steakhouse the regular à la carte menu will be joined by seasonal specials including duck three ways ($15) and a slow-roasted leg of pork served with baked apples, carmelized onions and white wine sauce (212-965-8560).
Kittichai:
Get Thai-ed up for the New Year at this SoHo spot where the chef is
whipping up a five-course (plus amuse) feast including foie gras
terrine and lobster three ways with sesame chili dipping sauce ($125
per person; 212-219-2000).
Klee Brasserie:
Countdown to the new year with the likes of Mangalitsa pork belly with
pomegranate seeds and cipollini onion and housemade lardo with heirloom
cauliflower, corn chip and cone tea flowers at this Chelsea
restaurant's five-course dinner ($95 per person; 212-633-8033).
La Lanterna di Vittorio:
This Village Italian is offering a $45-per-person, five-course
extravaganza for the evening with dishes like sweet potato bisque, a
choice of individual lasagna and a champagne toast to cap it off
(seatings at 6:30, 8:30 and 10:30 PM). Hungry after midnight? The à la
carte menu will be available from 12:30–5 AM (212-529-5945).
Mercadito: All three locations of this these Mexicans will be celebrating. At Mercadito Cantina, a three-course family-style tasting menu is on hand for $40 a person ($80 for food and an open bar). Meanwhile at Mercadito and Mercadito Grove, a four-course tasting menu
will be available for $50 ($100 for food and an open bar). Meanwhile, à
la carte menus will be available at all three from 5–9:15 PM.
Piccola Cucina: At this tiny SoHo Italian, 2010 is being rung in with a seven-course dinner served from 7–8:30 PM ($75 per person) and an even more elaborate 10-course dinner from 9–11:30 PM, which includes a champagne toast at midnight ($110 per person). Planned items on the menu include venison with green peppercorns and porcini, as well as a traditional dish of lentils to ensure luck in the new year (212-625-3200).
Trattoria Cinque: This TriBeCan Italian will offer $100-per-person, three-course prix fixe from 5–10:30 PM along with the bar menu. In addition there will be a DJ on hand spinning from 11 PM–2 AM and a prosecco toast at midnight (212-965-0555).
Savoy: This SoHo classic will be offering an à la carte menu of dishes that the restaurant's chef, Ryan Tate, loves but doesn't usually offer. Think quail and foie gras terrine with mache and sweet-and-sour salsify ($18); roasted squab breast and confit leg with braised leeks, wild rice and white truffles ($36); and baked black cod with potato gnocchi, King Crab legs, broccoli and Meyer lemon jus ($38). Can't make up your mind? A $75 per person four-course tasting menu will also be available (212-219-8570).
Spice Market: Jean-Georges' Asian in the Meatpacking District is ringing in the new year with a four-course family-style feast. For seatings between 5–7 PM, the restaurant is offering its à la carte menu, while diners who come for the 9 PM seating will enjoy a four-course dinner – think peekytoe crab dumplings with sugar snap peas and black pepper shrimp with sun-dried pineapple – as well as a champagne toast, noisemakers, a live DJ and the right to stay at their table for the entire evening ($148 per person in the dining room, $128 per person for communal dining; 212-675-2322).
21 Club: This venerable Midtowner is starting the evening with à la carte dining in the bar room and a $70 three-course prix fixe upstairs for those who seat before 6:30 PM. Then from 9 PM on, a $225-per-person, four-course prix fixe will be accompanied by live music, dancing, a midnight champagne toast and party favors (212-582-7200).
Via Dei Mille: Diners who indulge in this SoHo Italian's $100-per-person, four-course feast will be given noisemakers, party favors and champagne when midnight comes around (212-431-0080).
Finally, Casimir, Commerce and Fatty Crab will all be open and serving their regular menus.
