Whole Foods Issues Major Cheese Recall

Gourmet mega-chain Whole Foods is recalling Crave Brothers Les Freres cheese due to an outbreak of listeria that has already sickened many and killed at least one person. The product may be contaminated with the bacteria and was sold in 30 states in the last several months. A voluntary recall was issued of Les Freres, Petit Frere and Petit Frere with Truffles cheese made on July 1 or earlier. Customers who purchased the cheese are urged to throw it away and bring in their receipts for a refund. [AP/HuffPo]

  1. Hi, Libba Letton here from Whole Foods Market. I want to make sure Zagat readers know that this recall affected many retailers, restaurants, and even mail-order customers, and not Whole Foods Market alone.

Folks should know that at this time, no illnesses nor the death have been linked to Whole Foods Market. For more information, see the Crave Brothers' own release here: http://www.cravecheese.com/pr-details.php?Les-Fr-res-Cheese-Products-Recalled-73
