Top Chef CJ Jacobson's Girasol Opens Tonight + The Menu

The tallest chef on TV (we may have just made that up) has landed in Studio City. Chris "CJ" Jacobson debuts his latest, Girasol, tonight in the former 8 1/2 Taverna. The space got a complete overhaul by Gulla Jonsdottir of G+, who also did Red O, now with sexy swirls of sunflower vines and petals (girasol means "sunflower"), earthy elements like stone and burnt wood, plus a bar and outdoor dining area. It sounds super chic and contemporary, right down to Jacobson's hyper-seasonal menu.

Jacobson draws inspiration from his time staging at Noma in Copenhagen (not so much his tenure as consultant chef creating things like this for George Abou-Daoud's Mercantile Wine Bar), which means you'll see whatever's hottest at the farmer's market on the table, with influences from all over. In short: anything goes, whether it's Pacific Rim cuisine or dishes inflected with Mexican chiles; offerings like fried red snapper with crispy greens; marinated pork satay with grilled lemon and fennel pollen; and lovage butter for the bread. Take a look at the opening dinner menu below. Right now there's only beer and wine, but expect to see cocktails as well as brunch later this year.
