NBC Bay Area's Investigative Unit has discovered that food service giant Sysco has been using dozens of unrefrigerated storage units as halfway drop-off points before boxes of meat and produce are delivered to Bay Area restaurants and hotels several hours later. As company reps tell local NBC affiliate KNTV that this practice has now ceased, anonymous sources within the company say it has been going on for years. The California Department of Public Health is currently investigating, and KNTV promises more coverage.
