Now Open: Hutch, As American as Apple Pie on the North Side

You know what we don’t really see anymore? A good ole menu with appetizers, entrees and desserts. You know, like what menus looked like before the age of shared plates and communal dining. What the menu at TGI Fridays still looks like. Hutch is upscale TGI Fridays, and we mean that in the best way possible. New chef-owner Marc Wuenschel took over the former Socca space to open his American bistro.

It’s a restaurant that combines a family-friendly atmosphere with a solid wine, beer and cocktail list for the Lakeview crowd. The golden space is filled with wood tables, leather boots and a full bar for dining or imbibing. Sitting on the southern tip of the Clark Street strip in Wrigleyville, it's the perfect place for dinner before a night of debauchery or drinks after a Cubs game.

Start with skillet cornbread served with bacon butter - we told you this place reeked of hearty Americana. Other appetizers include filet mignon sliders with horseradish cream and crispy onions or crispy artichoke hearts with parmesan and lemon aioli. The larger plates, called Hutch Favorites, feature bacon-wrapped grilled meat load with tomato chutney and chive mash as well as beer can chicken with lemon green beans.

Dessert is as American as apple pie and ice cream because it is apple pie and ice cream, specifically Mama’s apple pie a la mode. Hutch also serves a chocolate ding cake, a cross between a Ding-Dong and a cupcake with an iconic white frosting swirl over chocolate ganache. Adults can opt for a beer float with dulce de leche gelato or an after dinner cocktails such as the Thin Mint with Jameson, Godiva dark chocolate liqueur and fresh mint.

Don’t have a sweet tooth? The drink menu is divided into martinis and craft cocktails as well as wine by the glass and beer. Cheers to a new casual dining option on the north side.
