Now Open: Blackwood BBQ Smokes Up The Loop

BBQ in the Loop, we never thought we would see the day that someone would drag a smoker downtown. That day is today. Blackwood BBQ fired up a Southern Pride smoker for the urban professional crowd. But these folk can’t exactly go back to the office with their hands covered in BBQ sauce. So Blackwood made the smart decision to set up the restaurant Chipotle-style, and do what Covo Gyro Market did for Greek food with BBQ.

The menu of the fast-casual eatery covers all the three sides of the BBQ triangle: pulled pork, beef brisket and pulled chicken. Each is smoked for 14 hours – they put in all they work so diners can grab it to go or eat in the dining room filled with wood tables and metal chairs. Any of the meats can be served in a sandwich, salad or as a platter with one side. Choose from mac ‘n’ cheese with a breadcrumb topping, baked beans, corn bread and coleslaw.

Blackwood celebrated its opening on Wednesday with free sampler platters and gathered a line that sprawled down the block. Now, they open for lunch each day at 11 AM. Just to be safe, maybe pick up a wet nap before heading back to the office.
