We were having a hard time picturing New York's mega-Italian Batali-Bastianich vehicle, Eataly, in West Hollywood anyway. Although rumors had it slated for somewhere more central, the parent company never stopped looking at Downtown LA, according to Brigham Yen. So now the rumor is that Eataly is in "serious discussions" to open at Macy's Plaza at 7th and Flower, which will be transformed into The Bloc, a new hotel and retail complex, after a $160 million overhaul. This would mean the 50,000-square-foot space can be custom designed for Eataly, which could also have an outdoor dining element. And it would be so close to the Metro line, so...wow. Downtown is totally hot, and if this deal goes through, it will be a game-changer for the area for sure.
