Morton's Opens Second NYC Location, Gallagher's To Close for Renovations

A couple of news items for carnivores today. Another branch of Morton's Steakhouse has quietly opened in the Financial District, in the Club Quarters Hotel. It has the same menu of gigantic chops and seafood for the Downtown set, and we also predict that Wall Street types will appreciate the spot's bar, which serves cocktails and moderately priced bites like sliders. The new joint is open at 136 Washington Street.

Earlier this year, legendary steakhouse Gallagher's was taken over by restaurateur Dean Poll, and today we found out that the eatery will shut its doors for a floor to ceiling renovation. The venue is scheduled to open back up in October, though the joint will look different inside and out (and have a slew of new menu items) certain things are here to stay. The iconic meat locker in the front of the restaurant will remain and the steaks will still be grilled on hickory coals. Stay tuned for the spruce up at 228 W. 52nd St.
