Maynard James Keenan, Tool frontman and Caduceus wine guy, teams up with Heirloom LA for a very intimate dinner party in The Salon in Eagle Rock. And the best part: he's pouring all rose wines. In typical HLA fashion, the menu looks fantastic, with passed apps in the garden like coffee-crusted elk loin carpaccio crostini; black brioche Navajo fry bread with avocado butter; and fried forbidden rice topped with tuna tartare, followed by sweet corn and sheep's milk ricotta tamales; salad with ingredients plucked from the house garden; eggplant-stuffed squid ink ravioli with poached buttered lobster; mesquite grilled pork chops; and coconut tres leche cake for dessert. $75 per person. Party starts at 7 PM, dinner begins at 8 PM. Call 855-456-6652 for reservations.
The Downtown Flea, a huge new hipster flea market, hits Downtown's Historic Core this Sunday, July 28, with hundreds of booths spread over four lots selling vintage and new clothing, art, jewelry and artisan food products. It sounds more like a party with DJs, a scavenger hunt that will reward winners with $20 "flea bucks" to spend anywhere at the market, VIP "chill zones" and more. There will of course be food trucks galore to keep you well fed while shopping and sampling. Admission is $5. The Downtown Flea happens the fourth Sunday of every month. 10 AM-4 PM (between 2nd and 4th streets and Main to Broadway).
