As Inside Scoop SF reported, James Syhabout's Hawker Fare restaurant was a victim of vandalism and arson over the weekend and the restaurant is temporarily closed. However, we caught up with folks at the restaurant today and they assure us that the fire damage was only outside and that no fire or smoke managed to get inside. In a stroke of luck, the fire was discovered at 2 AM by the restaurant's night cleaner, who immediately called the fire department, so the fire was extinguished fairly quickly. Given the limited damage, the reps anticipate that the restaurant absolutely will reopen, hopefully within a month if PG&E and the City of Oakland cooperates in all the necessary work and re-permitting. Stay tuned.
