New York Times points out, the American palate is changing, embracing flavors that past generations would have considered exotic. Nowhere is that more apparent than on the menu at Serpico, the new upscale South Street restaurant from James Beard Award-winning chef Peter Serpico and Stephen Starr.
The press-shy chef does not like labels, but if forced to describe his food, contemporary American is what he calls it. He’s also quick to note his restaurant is still finding its niche, and the menu will change frequently as he and the cooks in the gleaming open kitchen continue to experiment and refine. We had the opportunity to dine at Serpico about two weeks after its mid-June launch, and can report the experience and food are both totally unique in Philadelphia.
