Chicago Dining Deals and Events, July 8-14

Monday, July 8
The Peninsula launches its new chef series with Giuseppe Tentori (GT Fish & Oyster, BOKA) preparing a five-course seafood-centric meal with chef Lee Wolen. Tickets cost $85 and benefit Common Threads. Upcoming guest chefs include Andrew Zimmerman (Sepia), Ryan Poli (Tavernita and Little Market Brasserie) and Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia, Bar Toma and Terzo Piano) (312-573-6760).

Tuesday, July 9
The Tippling Brothers break it down with wine from Cream Wine Company. The vino will not be paired with food, but music. This month’s Tippling Tuesday at Mercadito features funky varietals such as Matin Calme’s Sans Temps fermented with natural yeasts and Champ Divin's Cuvee Pollux made with the classic Jurassian production technique of drying grapes on straw mats in the sun. $25 covers tastings and appetizers (312-329-9555).

Wednesday, July 10
The Taste of Chicago returns to Grant Park though Sunday with the massive food festival that hosts live music, food trucks and tasting from dozens of different restaurants. The festival is free to enter, but food must be purchased with tickets. Each strip of 12 tickets costs $8.

Thursday, July 11
Markethouse’s new series has chef De’Ann Wellwerts cooking with locally sourced, farmed and foraged produce such as Illinois asparagus with grass-fed filet mignon and wild mushroom roasted in a red wine sauce. Each four-course "odd produce" dinner includes cocktail and wine pairings for $39 (312-224-2200).

Friday, July 12
In honor of this weekend’s inaugural Windy City Smokeout, R.J. Grunts serves the Windy City Smokeout burger with a fried green tomato and a half-pound patty of ground chuck and sirloin seasoned with Bub Rub and finished with ranch dressing, lettuce, red onion and pimiento cheese on a potato bun (773-929-5363).

Saturday, July 13
In search of the perfect culinary knick-knack or kitchen tchotchke? Shop the Martyn George Culinary Bazaar this and next weekend. The vintage kitchenware shop will sell its unique finds at 25-75% off. In you can’t make it to the store, the online shop is offering a 15% discount from July 13 though 21. After the sale, the store will close its storefront and operate solely out of the online store (312-340-4666).

Sunday, July 14
Refuel after the Bucktown Garden Walk with half-off pizza at Lottie's Pub from 4-7 PM.
