Bethesda’s Restaurant Scene is Booming

DC’s unprecedented restaurant explosion has been getting lots of media play. And no wonder - this past weekend alone, three top chefs have opened exciting new venues - Mike Isabella’s Greek restaurant Kapnos on 14 St. NW; Spike Mendelsohn’s French debut Béarnaise on Capitol Hill and Fabio Trabocchi’s Downtown Italian spot Casa Luca.

Still, Bethesda is having a dining boom that also deserves attention. Baltimore’s legendary Attman’s Delicatessen opened over the weekend in the Cabin John Shopping Center - right next door to the recent arrival Benny’s Bar & Grill, a relaxed American gathering spot that has become quite a scene. There were lines out the door in 90 plus degree heat to get a corned beef and pickle fix.

Meanwhile, chocoholics are loosening their belts in anticipation of Max Brenner’s opening in Downtown Bethesda. This mecca of chocolate desserts and drinks won’t waste customers' calories by serving lunch or dinner. They can go strictly for the sugar and cocoa rush (7263 Woodmont Ave., Bethesda).
