Best Thing We Ate This Weekend (in Maine): Lobster Roll at Plant's Seafood

Like most NYC dwellers, we took the long holiday weekend as an invite to bolt from the Big Apple, though we are totally jealous of those who stayed behind and snatched up open tables at the less-busy NYC restos. Our travels took us to Maine, and of course we spent the weekend stuffing our face with lobster rolls. We enjoyed the high-end option at Eventide Oyster Co. and the dive-bar gem J's Oyster charmed with its cheap beers and amply stuffed sandwich. But, it's every food-obsessed New Yorker's dream to discover a tiny roadside shack serving the best lobster rolls, and that's just what we did.

Plant's Seafood is located off the highway in Bath, Maine and we literally stumbled across it while lost. The small stand has a walk up window and a few picnic tables strewn off to one side and serves a menu of inexpensive seafood including the glorious main event, a lobster roll brimming with sweet claw meat, lightly covered in mayo and served on a hot-off-the griddle bun. Forget Poland Spring, one bite of this, and you'll see what it means to be from Maine.
