Barlata Tapas Bar Officially Opens on South Lamar

On Monday night the much-anticipated Spanish restaurant from chef Daniel Olivella officially opened. Austin has long been missing quality Spanish and Iberian food, but now we have a place to call home. Olivella splits his time between Austin and the Bay Area, where he owns another Barlata and B44 Catalan.

The menu features 10 types of paella, almost 30 hot tapas plates, “latas” (comida served inside tin cans) and large plates like grilled baby lamb chops. The restaurant, which is on the ground floor of the Post South Lamar apartment complex, adds even more color to the already hopping South Lamar area, with Barley Swine, Uchi and Olivia nearby and brick-and-mortar East Side King, Odd Duck and Alamo Drafthouse locations to open soon.

As is par for the course in Austin, the eatery is not taking reservations yet, so expect a wait. And be on the lookout for a lunch menu to come soon.
