Abu Dhabi Opens Underwater Sculpture Garden

Abu Dhabi is angling to become the cultural capital of the Middle East with planned outposts for the Guggenheim and the Louvre. But the latest artistic addition to the emirate is actually located under water. Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace just opened an underwater sculpture garden just off the resorts 1.2 km private sand beach. Dive under and you'll find mermaids, giraffes, elephants and shipwrecks. Though already an attraction in its own right, the sculptures will evolve as coral and underwater life move in to turn them into mini-ecosystems.
