5 Things to Know About G, Mike Isabella’s Sandwich Shop

G, Mike Isabella’s tribute to the New Jersey Italian-American food he ate growing up, opens this weekend, next door to his handsome Greek Kapnos on happening 14 Street NW. It's serving mouth-filling subs by day, and starting in August, the dark wood spot will morph into an affordable Italo-American restaurant at night, serving a fixed-price, multicourse menu. Here's what you need to know about it.

On Sunday night, the set menu will recreate the traditional Sunday afternoon feast of Isabella's childhood, with its long simmering “gravy” (meaty sauce), spaghetti and fried calamari. All evening, menus will cost $40.

Located side-by-side with Kapnos, the sandwich shop has a similar modern rustic look. It features a long open kitchen, with an eating counter, dark wood and exposed brick.

Heroes will feature Greek-inspired fillings using roasts from Kapnos. There will be a porchetta hoagie, with greens and provolone, as well as lamb gyro and traditional subs like a chicken parm and a meatball hero. Look for vegetable sandwiches and sides including a Greek salad. There’s even a breakfast 'wich.

Sandwiches will be served from 11 AM-4 PM; dinners start at 5 PM. Reservations for dinner will be accepted. Lunch is fast casual and carryout.

Canned and bottled draft beer and a few wines can be ordered at lunchtime.  At dinner, cocktails, beer and wine from the Kapnos list will be served at G. Expect some additional Italian-inspired cocktails, as well.
