Zahav Down the Shore 4 Is a Klezmer Inferno

David Katz will join Michael Solomonov and other chefs at the party
Get ready to shake it! Zahav’s annual Down the Shore summer kickoff party is dedicated to disco this year, and tickets for the Monday, July 1, event are now on sale. Morgan’s Pier will be the setting for the “Klezmer Inferno,” and a lineup of seven guests chefs will join Michael Solomonov in creating a buffet of European Jewish BBQ to go with beer and sangria.

Disco attire is strongly recommended for the all-you-can-eat-and-drink fest, which will feature live music from the West Philadelphia Orchestra. The toques donning glitter, tube tops and crazy wigs as they cook are Erin O’Shea (Percy Street Barbecue), Nick Macri (Southwark), Jennifer Carroll, Lucio Palazzo (La Calaca Feliz), David Katz, John Taus (The Corner), Peter Woolsey (Bistrot La Minette) and Terence Feury (Tavro 13).

Klezmer tunes may not feature riffs as catchy as “Burn, baby, burn,” but the traditional Eastern European Jewish music did incorporate a jazzy edge when immigrants brought it to the United States, so the theme isn’t as much of a stretch as you might first think. Plus, we know from video and first-hand experience that chef Solomonov has as many smooth moves on the dance floor as he does in the kitchen. This event sells out every year, so pick up your $85 ticket here ASAP.
