West Town Bakery Opens in the ACME Hotel

Def not a cronut
We don’t see the point of another bakery opening unless they are selling cronuts. Seriously, Chicago, we just want to try one, and then we can put this whole trend to rest. However, the new West Town Bakery location in the ACME Hotel has a few buzzwords working in its favor. It is the sister spot to the 3-star certified green restaurant that specializes in organic, local and sustainable pastries. This includes, but is not limited to, donuts, cupcakes, cake balls, croissants, muffins, breads, candy bars, scones, cookies, brownies, ice cream sandwiches and fruit freeze pops as well as vegan, gluten-free and nut-free items. Alas, no cronuts on that list.

The cafe is decorated with the same neon graffiti as the West Town location and will serve sweets from a walk-up window as well as room service for guests in the hotel and counter service in the 12-seat space. The bakery opened yesterday with a selection of pastries that changes daily, Passion House coffee, Steven Smith Teamaker teas and fresh-squeezed juices. West Town Bakery is part of the Fifty/50 restaurant group that will open The Berkshire Room in the hotel later this month. This cocktail bar will feature craft cocktails from beverage director Benjamin Schiller and small plates from executive chef Chris Curren, who also oversees the savory side of the menu at the new West Town Bakery.
