Sunday Sidewalk Brunch Can Now (Legally) Start at 10 AM

On the seventh day, we rest - at least until we head for Bloody Marys and mimosas at brunch. If we wanted to sit outside, that would have to be after noon, as the city had a strange law on the books banning sidewalk service on Sunday AM. Not anymore. This week, the City Council voted to end that restriction, allowing venues to start brunch service at 10 AM (though, we know for a fact that many restos just ignored this rule, since we have had plenty of eggs Benedict on the sunny side of noon).

One restaurant is celebrating with a deal. Barraca in the West Village is giving a gratis pastry basket to every table that sits between 10 AM and noon on Sunday. Pair that with some $3 mimosas and $3 Bloody Marys, and you'll see why this law should have been canned a long time ago.
