New Marc Vetri Restaurant Docking at the Navy Yard

Big news in Vetri-land today, and it’s not a firm opening date for Pizzeria Vetri. Via Twitter, Marc Vetri announced he and partners have signed a deal to open a new restaurant just inside the Navy Yard. The complex at the very south end of Broad Street is home to the Urban Outfitters headquarters and is a growing corporate park, with plenty of hungry workers to feed (a food truck pod assembles there weekly). The location is also relatively close to the sports complex, though you’d have a tough time navigating across the busy roadways on foot.

The Insider got Vetri to spill a few more details on the forthcoming spot, which will be called The Brig - its building, just to the left of the park’s entrance, was the actual brig when the area was a working naval shipyard. The Brig will have a full bar and will serve both lunch and dinner to a 150-seat dining room and a large outdoor patio, according to Uwishunu.

The deal is an arrangement with the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp., which is offering incentives and tax breaks to help revitalize developing zones in the city. The Insider also notes that Vetri Family offices will relocate to the Navy Yard to take advantage. An opening date of late spring 2014 is being targeted.
