After quietly opening a few weeks ago, Malbec and Tango House is bubbling up on our radar, but not due to the wide selection of wines from Argentina and cuisine by chef Rodrigo Sieiro. It's the Esquina Carlos Gardel tango performances, which go down nightly at 8 PM.
The concept is based on the Buenos Aires original (see that here) and gels with the theatrical options in the neighborhood. There's The Library at Public in the theater across the street, a cocktail bar and restaurant from Andrew Carmellini, and the burlesque den Duane Park, which recently moved to the Bowery. The performances are 75 minutes long and happen in a special theater, you can get tickets here. If you just want to stop by for a sip of rosé, there is a stand alone bar and restaurant area, no tickets required. The venue is located at 428 Lafayette Street.
