Los Angeles Food & Wine Returns With New Line-Up, Location

Bye-bye, LA Live. Hello, Disney Concert Hall.
Back for its third year, the Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival will take place on August 22-25. The biggest change? Early chatter at Pebble Beach Food & Wine, which is put on by the same group, was that the main event would move from L.A. Live but stay centered in Downtown LA, and that turns out to be true. Instead of the splashy lights around Staples and Nokia Plaza, the tasting tents and main cooking and entertainment stages will be set up along Grand Avenue in front of the Disney Concert Hall. After that, it's mostly the same, just with more Grant Achatz.

Like last year, Giadia De Laurentiis kicks off the weekend with the Fiesta Italiana; there's an Asian Night Market hosted by Morimoto, but thankfully featuring a lot of our local chefs (perhaps in response to complaints often heard last year) like David LeFevre, David Myers and Ricardo Zarate; Live on the Avenue includes a tasting and live music (cross your fingers for something from this decade); Achatz will be in the house; and two grand tastings will feature 30 chefs and more than 300 wines. Other events, like the lunches (our favorite), will be peppered throughout the weekend and around town. Specifics and details are still being hammered out, but tickets are already on sale here.

Oh, and P.S.: Towne, the now-shuttered restaurant at the Watermark Tower that Coastal Luxury Management took over, is currently getting its face lifted. The new name: Faith & Flower, or so we hear. The goal is to open by the time LAFW gets underway, even though a chef hasn't been named yet. The clock is ticking...
