Little Nonna’s Progress: Marcie Turney Is Testing Recipes

“Marcie Turney finally in the kitchen cookin’ at Little Nonna’s,” tweeted Valerie Safran last week, the words accompanying a photo of the chef squeezing citrus for an orange-rosemary ‘cello. Over the weekend, the pair teased a couple more dishes from the menu of their newest endeavor, a casual Italian restaurant coming to 13th and Locust.

The first batch of stuffed artichokes loaded with capers, grated egg, lemon and herbs came out of the test oven, and a large focaccia sprinkled with red onion and what looked like black olives went in. The space is progressing nicely as well, with a mesh-seat-filled garden sun room and a dining room with walls covered in antique photos. Look for an opening date sometime in July or early August - we’ll keep you posted.
