Futuristic Underwater Hotel Coming to the Maldives

It looks like something from a sci-fi movie: two glass discs hovering UFO-like above the water with a glass tunnel plunging nearly 100 feet down to reef-side bedrooms. The Maldives just OK’d plans for the underwater resort, CNN reports. Dubbed the Water Discus Hotel, the 21-room resort will be built in the crystalline waters beside Kuredhivaru with plans for a second in the works for Dubai. Guests will wake up in an underwater world with floor-to-ceiling views of the reef and its Technicolor fish. Above will float a spa, restaurant, lounge, pool and helicopter pad. Those who want to get closer to the action can SCUBA straight from the hotel’s airlock compartment or ride in its three-passenger submarine. Would you want to stay below the surface?
