Deschutes Brewery celebrated 25 years of craft brewing this week, and - happy coincidence - is now distributed in Philadelphia on a regular, year-round basis for the first time. Previously only available during Philly Beer Week special events, the many styles of this West Coast pioneer can now be found on draft and in bottles around our city and the surrounding region.
We fell in love when tasting the Chainbreaker White IPA last night, though not exactly at first sip, because the enjoyment in this beer is how the flavor develops while drinking the whole bottle. Thanks to the wheat blended with malt in the base, this IPA is very well balanced, with all the citrusy spice but none of the sting of Citra hops. Also look for Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Fresh Squeezed IPA, Inversion IPA and Deschutes River Ale at bars and bottle shops around town.
