Coming Soon: Big Names Bring Top Round Roast Beef to La Brea

Top Round, coming soon
Every city seems to have its own rendition of a roast beef sandwich, be it Philly's cheesesteaks or Baltimore's pit beef, and a team of big names brings those and more to LA with Top Round, opening near Olympic and La Brea next Monday. The group includes chefs Anthony Carron (800 Degrees) and Steven Fretz (XIV, Michael Mina Group) and restaurateurs Jamie Tiampo (NYC's dell'anima, L'artusi) and 30 Under 30er Noah Ellis (Red Medicine). They've taken over the former Bee's Donuts and has reworked it into a stylish and casual spot, the kind of place you can slip in for a $7 roast beef sandwich, curly fries and frozen custard.

The menu is comprised of six sandwiches, all made with slow-roasted, spice-rubbed USDA Choice beef. The fries are made in-house - you can get them smothered in gravy, cheese and caramelized onions - and there are more than a 120 soda float options thanks to something dubbed the Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine. So yes, you can create your own, but please veer from the "suicide soda float." That's just disgusting. There are also "concretes," super thick milkshakes made with various toppings. You can get your fix starting at 11 AM on June 17.
