Chez Panisse Makes a Triumphant Comeback: a First Look Inside

Chez Panisse reopened on June 24 after a devastating fire on March 8 closed the Berkeley icon for over three months. As the first dinner service was being prepared in the downstairs restaurant, we celebrated the occasion with lunch upstairs in the Chez Panisse Café. Click through to see the changes, big and small, and to welcome back Alice Waters and her incredible staff.

  1. The food, while beautiful and hopefully tasty, does not warrant such high prices. In San Francisco, you can get those exact same dishes (or at someone's house) for 1/2 the cost. I understand it's an experience, but what a price to pay.

  2. It's worth it to be part of history....also they may have much better benefits for employees than a cheaper restaurant in sf

  3. But is that little Laotian place next door still there?
