released their first vintage this year. The wine is from Chateau Miraval, the duo's 1,000 acre estate in Correns, France, made with the help of Famille Perrin, which owns Chateau Beaucastel. We can't say this about a lot of other celebrity-labeled wines (*cough*Fergie*cough*), but this was actually a very nice rosé.
You really wouldn't know it was the Jolie-Pitt wine save for the very small print on the back of the bottle saying so. But once you see the shape of the vessel - squarish, heavy at the bottom, almost like a Champagne bottle - you won't overlook it on the shelves. Inside it's a blend made with Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah and the white grape Rolle (aka Vermentino), which renders it a lovely pale pink color, with a bit of strawberries on the nose and palate. It was a little zesty, minerally, clean and balanced; all in all very drinkable at our poolside barbecue. With so much hype around it, all 6,000 bottles sold out within five hours when it was released in March, but our friend picked it up at Topline Wine & Spirits in Glendale for around $20. You can also order Miraval from Wally's.
