Manny Torres Gimenez's new Mission restaurant the Palace (3047 Mission) is serving refined food in the modest surroundings of the former Palace Steak House. It's refreshing to get quality this elevated in a kitchen that could never have previously entertained the notion of a tasting menu. He's still got steak at the new Palace, but now it's from local and respected purveyors. His current tasting menu features these delicate morsels of steak au poivre, a dish the Venezuelan chef likes to call Happy Cali Cow. There's also a Snake River Kobe steak and a grass-fed local top sirloin on the à la carte menu.
