Best Thing We Ate: BBQ Bacon Sticks at Boneyard Bistro

We had no idea what to expect when we ordered "bacon sticks" at Sherman Oaks BBQ house Boneyard Bistro last night. But since we're on the hunt for some of the more unique items from the best BBQ spots around Los Angeles for Barbecue Week, it sounded exactly like what we needed to try. Turns out a bacon stick is a thick slab of house-cured, super smoky bacon that's skewered, grilled and slathered in a cherry chipotle sauce. This is pure bacon at its finest, eaten as you'd eat any skewered meat, and that sweet smokiness and slightly spicy sauce makes it more like a true barbecued meat. Crazy good. Boneyard Bistro still does a great job delivering fine ribs, brisket and, our favorite, Santa Maria tri-tip, to the Valley. You can't really go wrong with the chili-stuffed donuts (yes, for real), fried mac and cheese triangles, and an ice cold beer, either. It has one of the best beer lists on Ventura.
