Behold Potatopia: Will New Yorkers Embrace a Potato-Only Restaurant?

Sure, New Yorkers love their spuds, but it remains to be seen if city dwellers and their cravings for potatoes (particularly fried ones) can support an entire restaurant. Well, there's only one way to find out, and potato-centric restaurant Potatopia is set to do just that when it opens on July 11 in the West Village. The joint is an import from Edison, New Jersey and will feature nine different styles of tater with plenty of toppings and sauces. Guests can enjoy russet, red bliss and jumbo yams smashed, baked, fried as au gratin and as a mashed pie, which is the restaurant's take on Shepard's pie.

We'll definitely stop by to check it out, if only because we want to order the "I Think Therefore I Yam," or sweet potato crinkle fries with Parmesean, garlic and aioli. The store will open at 378 Sixth Avenue near Waverly.
