The first restaurant to make the cut (fatty and lean) is Opie’s. Named after the owner’s dog, the Spicewood area restaurant defines quaint and smoky. Pick your own meat out of the enormous smoker: we like the brisket (of course) as well as the babyback ribs and beef ribs, plus the jalapeño sausage.
Don’t forget to load up on sides, either. The tater tot casserole always satisfies, as does the spicy corn and the cobbler, plus brownies and other sweets galore.
And while you’re out on Highway 71, stop by Krause Springs or Hamilton Pool to cool down from the hot Texas sun. Just remember to wait an hour after eating, like your momma taught you.
9504 Texas Hwy 71, Spicewood; 830-693-8660
