Dîner en Blanc is back for a second year, and only 650 people will win the lottery to be able to buy a pair of tickets to Philadelphia’s second annual white-clad outdoor pop-up.If you act quickly, you can secure your spot. You're not assuring yourself of an actual seat at an event, mind you, just a place on a 4000-person waitlist.
The global event was started nearly 25 years ago in Paris, and has since spread to 40 cities around the world. The location for the dinner is kept secret until the day of the event, and then revealed to guests - dressed head-to-toe in white - at the very last minute. This year’s date has not yet been released, but expect it to go down this summer, while the weather is warm.
The pseudo-impromptu gathering is like a big, elegant picnic. Attendees bring their own food, plates, silverware, tables, chairs - everything, basically. Your ticket fee goes toward Dîner en Blanc’s organization of the space and permitting required, as well as coordination of entertainment like live music.
Last year’s inaugural Philly event descended on Logan Square, creating a picturesque circle of white-wearing revelers around Swann Fountain. Want to join the fun? Go here to register for your chance.
