Weekend Planner: Women in Wine and Gin-Fueled Turf War

Meet the Market
Think farmer’s markets are tame? Think again. Get rowdy with the Green City Market Junior Board at its first "Meet the Market" of the season. The event, tonight at BellyQ, features passed appetizers and featured cocktails from Koval Distillery and Green Acres Farm. The event is free, but proceeds from every cocktail benefit Green City Market's LINK matching fund (312-563-1010).

Women in Wine
Women (or men) who sip wine can learn about the women who make it on Friday at City Winery. “Women in Wine: The XX Factor” showcases wines from female winemakers. Guest will taste wines to see if they can spot a certain je ne sais quoi in each glass of the lady-made vino. Tickets cost $60 and include wine, cheese and charcuterie (312-733-9463).
Gin Wars
Whole Foods in the South Loop is hosting the best kind of turf war – the kind with gin. On Saturday, the grocer welcomes three local gin distillers (Death Door Spirits, Few Spirits and Journeyman Distillery) to show off their gin along with cocktail recipes. Try samples from each and declare a winner. The battle goes down between noon and 3 PM (312-435-4600).

Oui Oui
The French Open begins on Sunday and two of Chicago’s French restaurants are offering specials to celebrate the tournament. Brasserie by LM and Troquet will serve French beer specials including Kronenbourg 1664, Kronenbourg Blanc, Witbier, La Fin Du Monde and Jenlain Blonde.
