Top Toques to Battle in Crab Cake Showdown

Top area chefs will be on both sides of the judging table at the eighth annual DC Crab Cake Competition happening June 9 at the Source. The star-studded  line-up of contestants includes  Kyle Bailey (Birch and Barley), Jeff Black (Black Salt), Chris Clime (PassionFish), John Critchley (Bourbon Steak), Spike Gjerde (Woodberry Kitchen), Matt Hagan (Mussel Bar and Grille), Russell Smith (Wolfgang Puck Catering) and David Stein (Tony and Joe’s Seafood).

On the judge’s side of the table, last year’s contest winner Marjorie Meek-Bradley (Ripple), Tracy O’Grady (Willow) and chef Janis Mclean will be joined by food writers and media celebs. Scott Drewno (Source) and Ris Lacoste (Ris) will referee. Guests will taste all the crab cakes and vote for their faves, as well as cruise oyster, beer and wine stations. The event will benefit the culinary education programs of it sponsor, the American Institute of Wine and Food, DC Chapter (12-3 PM; $70, for information and tickets, go here).
