Lucy’s Whey Will Open on the Upper East Side in Mid-August
By Anne Roderique Jones
Hey, Upper East Siders! One of our favorite cheesemongers is moving on up. Word on the street is that Lucy’s Whey is headed to this burgeoning ‘hood at Lexington and 91st - just in time to catch the last of picnic season. Amy Thompson, manager and buyer for Lucy’s Whey says, “So far, we’ve met some of our neighbors and the response is fantastic - we’re so excited to be on the Upper East Side.” She tells us that this store will be bigger than their other locations (East Hampton and Chelsea Market) and have a specialty coffee bar along with a wine and beer counter for evening imbibing. In addition, there will be artisanal bread, gourmet ice cream, prepared sandwiches and, of course, a top-notch cheese counter. (Try Amy’s favorite, the "Across the Pond” washed-rind cow’s milk cheese from Keeley’s Cheese Co.).
“There’s nothing like it in this hood and we’ll bring all kinds of delicious food to the neighborhood and a great food experience,” says Thompson. Expect a mid-August opening.
