Mike Ilic kicks off a special fried chicken menu at Gram & Papa's in Downtown LA tonight beginning at 6:30 PM. On offer: your choice of white or dark fried bird in quarters or halves, plus fried fish or chicken livers, and all plates come with cole slaw, French fries and bread ($6.99-$12.99). Celebrate all things Oaxacan at Guelaguetza tonight for Cine | Mezcal | Comida. There will be a screening of Viva Mezcal, a documentary that deals with the politics and people surrounding the world of mezcal, plus food from guest chef Rodolfo Castellanos, chef from Oaxaca's Origen. From noon to 4 PM today, hit up Dominick's for the annual Best of the Bayou crawfish boil. Chef Brandon Boudet has over 300 pounds of mudbugs shipped in from New Orleans, all served traditionally, i.e. poured right onto the table with corn and potatoes. Other a la carte menu items include oysters, roast beef po' boys, Maui onion rings and icy New Orleans sno balls. Chef Connie Tran is moving her BEP Vietnamese Kitchen brunch pop-up to the Daily Dose in Downtown LA, the uber-cool cafe hidden down an alleyway near Church & State. Starting today, the eight-course family-style menu is served in the Gallery Room and takes place every other Sunday. The menu includes dishes like spiced crispies, mien bi (glass noodle soup with opo squash, minced shrimp and scallions), chung ruoc (deviled eggs with shredded pork jerky) and bo song khoi (smoked pho brisket in Peking pancakes). $37 per person, which includes non-alcoholic drinks (BYO, no corkage). Tran plans to stay here indefinitely, as well as launch a night-market-style pop-up this summer (1820 Industrial St.).
