Good Girl Dinette would fit the bill, but alas it was closed for the day. But that search brought us to this news: Chef/owner Diep Tran will begin serving breakfast at the cafe on Sunday, June 2.
Tran, whose family opened one of the Southland's first Vietnamese restaurants (Pho 79), launched GGD in 2009 to serve Vietnamese-inspired American-diner comfort food created with local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients (her curry chicken pot pie is a perennial favorite). The breakfast menu, which will be served on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 AM to 2 PM, includes dishes like porridge and pho, plus maggi steak and eggs, black pepper pork confit or creamed vegetables with coddled egg, roasted pork hash, coconut oatmeal with ginger syrup, and a croque garcon or madame made with Red Boat bacon, gruyere and bechemel. If that's not enough to tempt you, the photos on the website are positively drool-worthy.
