Son of a Bun, not to be confused with Son of a Gun restaurant, just hit the streets in mid-April, serving a simple menu of burgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs and handmade potato chips. Oh, and donuts. Fresh, hot donuts.
The truck is run by Christina Meyer, culinary developer for MobiMunch, the food truck company that operates the LudoTruck and San Francisco's The Chairman. Meyer worked on the LudoTruck for two years before working more closely with MobiMunch, which has smartly paired with top chefs like Ludovic Lefebvre and Hiroo Nagahara to launch trucks. This time the menu creations are her own, fresh hand-pressed beef burgers and all-natural grilled chicken served on Rockenwagner brioche buns, plus Hebrew National hot dogs and your choice of toppings: American cheese, caramelized onions and a special sauce (the House); smoked bacon, pepperjack cheese, onion strings and bbq sauce (the Western); avocado, egg and pesto mayo (the Avoegg); and bacon, pepperjack and spicy ranch (the Picante). They were a hit at the Brewery, we know that, probably because of the quality for the price (only $7 for a burger). You can add in some crisp chips and cole slaw for sides, and those aforementioned donuts for dessert.
The truck will be at NBC Universal (10600 Bluffside Drive in Studio City) from 11:30 AM to 2 PM for lunch today, and back on the road next week for lunch and dinner runs. Follow along on Facebook and Twitter for the schedule and specials.
