Coffee News: Bigger Buzz and Julius Meinl Expands Downtown

The view from Buzz Killer's new loft
Coffee drinkers in the loop will soon have an alternative to Starbucks and the one Intelligentsia location. Julius Meinl, the Vienna-based coffee and pastry shop, is planning three new locations Downtown near the Central Business District, according to Chicago Real Estate Daily. It is the latest coffee shop to join the expansion movement that includes north side neighbors Bow Truss and Asado.

Another coffee shop that is merely expanding in size is Buzz Killer Espresso. The Bucktown cafe completes renovations tomorrow. A new loft not only doubles the seating capacity of the small coffee shop, but also opens up the ceiling so skylights can flood the space with natural light. The new space will also include a coffee training lab for pour over classes, coffee tastings and making espresso.
