Cinco de Drink-O: Where to Fuel Up on Tacos and Tequila

Tequila is on the menu this weekend, followed by more tequila, and likely a pretty severe Monday hangover. You’ve been waiting since St. Patrick’s Day for to celebrate another country’s holiday with dangerous amounts of alcohol. Cinco de Mayo takes place on Sunday and we’ve got ten places to load up on margaritas, Coronas and tequila shots in Chicago.

Cactus Bar & Grill

The three-day “Tres de Mayo” celebration kicks off on Friday with a pre-Cinco party with $7 margaritas and $25 Mexican beer buckets. It continues with a DJ on Saturday and food specials through Sunday (312-922-3830).

Café Ba-Ba-Reba
Sip on half-price signature craft cocktails all day such as the BaBa Margarita for $5.50 or El Albaricoque, an apricot daiquiri, for $5.50. The Spanish restaurant will also serve tapas, pintxos and paella (773-935-5000).

High Noon Saloon

A live mariachi band accompanies drink special such as $4 Pacifico drafts, $3 Corona bottles and $3 Milagro shots. If guitars and trumpets are not your jam, a DJ will spin until 2 AM (773-227-9339).

Hub 51
Snack on the signature pulled chicken nachos or chips and guacamole while drinking discounted cocktails such as the Prickly Pear Margarita for $7 or shooting Avion for $7 (312-828-0051).

A weekend-long party starts with a brunch on Saturday with huevos rancheros and chilaquiles as well as Bloody Mary and margarita bottles for $35. It continues with an all-day fiesta on Sunday (312.329.9555).

Belly-up to the taco bar with marinated skirt steak and chicken, a selection of tortillas, toppings and hot sauces. Each taco costs $2 and can be accompanied by $5 Milagro margaritas, $3 Tecate cans and a pinata bashing contest (773-862-8686).

Pioneer Tavern Group
Why drink at just one bar when you can drink at three? The Pioneer Tavern Group’s Cinco de Mayo Crawl includes a complementary trolley between Lottie’s Pub, Pony Inn and Frontier. Specials will include tacos, $5 margaritas and $3 Dos Equis.

Takito Kitchen
Feast on the modern Mexican creations at this new Mexican restaurant. Cinco de Mayo special include $3 tequila shots and $3 tacos de carnitas. The full food and drink menu will be served on the sidewalk patio pending good weather (773-687-9620).

Taco Joint
Sure, there will be tacos, but both locations will also serve $5 margaritas and $5 cans of Tecate with a shot of Jimador blanco tequila.
