Casa De Luz in Danger of Closing

Fans of the macrobiotic restaurant near Barton Springs know that the City of Austin has been threatening it with fines and a possible closure for what seems like years now. One of the problems has to do with parking (as in, there is not enough designated parking for the restaurant, which violates city rules), and the city has just sent a letter to them that says “Casa must sell or vacate the premise, or be issued fines of up to $1,000 per week.”

Friends and supporters have scheduled an emergency meeting with the City of Austin Building and Standards Commission on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 PM. The meeting is at City Hall, room 1101.

  1. This is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been going here for years. I have never had problems finding parking either on the street or actually in the City parking lot across the street that is open to the public in the evenings and on weekends. Don't we have more important City of Austin matters than this? Why focus any attention on whether or not Casa de Luz has enough parking?

  2. Sounds to me like another excuse to make more room for condos...
