Burrito Spotlight: Vaca Frita Burrito at El Vez

While you’re eating your way through Mexican Food Week, the Vaca Frita burrito at El Vez is worth seeking out. While it might not be as gooey or ooze as much cheese as a true Cal-Mex burrito would, the quality and taste of the braised short rib makes up for it.

The meat is tucked in with avocado, tomatoes black beans, white rice and just a few jalapeƱos to make what is probably one of the most filling dishes at the Midtown Village Mexican. Plus, we aren’t making stuff up when we say the side of refried beans is one of the best things that can happen to pintos, even eaten by itself with a spoon ($10.50; 215-928-9800).
