Rosedale-area restaurant, and boy, were we in modern Italian heaven. From the airy herbed goat cheese zeppole to the dense braised beef short ribs to the coconut panna cotta with chocolate “soil,” the meal was rich and satisfying. On Sunday we decided to check out one of chef Shawn Cirkiel’s family-style dinners at his
But it was the lamb ragu that had us coming back for seconds and thirds and fourths (don’t judge!). Even though certain Italian friends of ours get rather worked up that Cirkiel’s pastas and sauces aren’t traditional, we enjoyed the contemporary take on a classic. The homemade gemelli pasta held up to the tender lamb in a pomodoro sauce, and the pepperoncini added a spicy kick, cut only by the grated parmesan on top.
Cirkiel recently chatted with us about his Sunday dinner series and how he likes to eat family style. “It allows us to play with food from different farms and ranches,” he also said, “because the menu changes every week.”
And for $35, the dinner is a steal. We can’t wait to see what’s on the menu next week.
