Weekend Planner: Coffee, Whiskey and Lot of Meat

A 2,000-square-foot expansion to BBQ paradise, The Smoke Daddy, will be unveiled tonight. Not only is the restaurant gaining a new bar and additional seating but also a smoker in the structure with skylights and retractable door. They celebrate with a BBQ blowout and by launcing a new brunch menu on Saturday (773-772-6656).

Free whiskey, anyone? Representatives from Wirtz Beverage lead a George Dickel rye whisky tasting tonight starting at 5:30 PM at Cactus. The sprit can be tasted neat or in an olf fashioned. All day, the bar will over George Dickel neat for $7 or in an old fashioned for $5 (312-922-3830).

The latte art artists of Chicago have issued a challenge to Washington DC’s The Coffee Bar. The April, New Gotham's Thursday Night Throwdown goes down tonight at Metropolis. Entry cost $5 and the battle begins at 9 PM.

Ever wonder how that big beast known as a cow is cut into convenient little pieces? For the inner meat-freak, The Butcher & Larder is hosting a beef fore quarter butchery demo on Sunday at 5:30 PM. Following the demo, all cuts will be available for 10% off. Tickets cost $50 (773-687-8280).
