Umami + Barbecue = Roadhouse L.A. This Summer

Richter gettin' down with a pig
Adam Fleischman can't sit still. Next on the agenda for the Umami Restaurant Group (Umami Burger, Umamicatessen, 800 Degrees) isn't burgers or mini-burgers or quick-serve pizza, but it's still pretty meaty: Roadhouse L.A., a partnership with the This Is Not a Pop-Up people and chef Robbie Richter, former pitmaster at New York's famed Fatty 'Cue and Hill Country. The restaurant will open at The Improv on Melrose, both as the house restaurant and as its own entity, sometime this summer.

According to Fleischman and Richter, this isn't just traditional American 'cue. "We are going to spearhead a modern-barbecue movement in Los Angeles," Richter says in a press release. Think global flavors. Things like paneer with smoked curried goat gravy, pork ribs with fish sauce and long pepper, "head of the day" dishes, and whole shoulders of lamb, beef and pork by special order. Roadhouse will be open for lunch and dinner daily, whether there's a show at The Improv or not, until 2 AM.
