The Scotsman, With the Cask, In the Dog Room (at The Dandelion)

In 1988, Bruce Williams resurrected a 4,000-year-old beer recipe to great acclaim, and the pioneering Scottish brewer hasn’t looked back since. Scotland’s Williams Bros. Brewing now produces a wide range of craft beers, and on Thursday Williams himself will bring three casks of historical favorites to the most appropriate venue in Philadelphia - the Dog Room at The Dandelion in Rittenhouse.

In the tartan-bedecked, canine-adorned room, Williams will chat about his trade while serving pours of the cask-conditioned ale. No one is sure exactly what he’s bringing, but the brewery roster includes beers made with heather and seaweed, so expect interesting sips.

Chef Robert Aikens will prepare hors d’oeuvres for the assembled brewheads, including Scotch eggs (of course), bangers and mash, Welsh rarebit and British bites. Seats are $35 each for the 9-11 PM event, and reservations are suggested, though walk-ins will be accommodated as long as there's space (215-558-2500).
