Chicago’s only tamale-serving-Mexican-wrestlers operating out of a food truck/spaceship are eyeing a brick-and-mortar location. Owners Manny Hernandez and Pepe Balanzar, met while working at Frontera Grill. In 2011, the Tamale Spaceship blasted off as one of the first food trucks in Chicago. The duo serves achiote-marinated pork, Oaxacan black mole and other traditional Mexican tamales from a converted 1978 truck - while wearing colorful masks. Now they want to open a permanent location in the neighborhood of Pilsen and turned to Kickstarter to raise $34,000 by May 16. No word if they will ditch the costumes for the restaurant.
