Sticky Rice Now Open at Grand Central Market, More New Stalls Opening Soon

Gai yang at Sticky Rice
The renovations and new tenants for Grand Central Market are underway, with a new food stall, Sticky Rice now open, and Horse Thief, Valerie Confections and Claremont's Cheese Cave to follow in the next few months.

According to the Downtown News, Sticky Rice has been soft-opened since March, serving Thai comfort food like khao man gai, similar to Hainan chicken rice, and gai yang, grilled chicken with papaya salad. Chef Jonny Lee (Rivera, Flying Pig) and David Tewasart (Soi 7) started Sticky Rice as a food stand at the Altadena Farmer's Market, which explains how it came to this new location: Altadena's Joseph Shuldiner and canner/jammer/author Kevin West are helping find new tenants for the market.

Next for GCM: Horse Thief will serve Texas-style barbecue (ribs, brisket, chicken and more) this June, and Valerie will have sandwiches, salads, pastries, baked goods, chocolates and jams soon after. The Cheese Cafe will have a full selection of cheeses plus sandwiches and wines. Christophe Farber, director of business development for the Market, says there are still stalls to be filled and room to build more, should it come to that. Who else would you like to see there?
